Technical Handbook O-rings Lower compression set values indicate improved remaining seal capacity. Compression set values generally increase with increased temperature and time. For O-rings the minimum squeeze should be about.007 inch. The reason is that with a very light squeeze almost all elastomers quickly take 100% compression set. And thus prolong the service life of O-rings. The Parbak® numbers correspond to the size designa-tions of the 2-xxx series of the Parker O-rings they are installed with (e.g. 8-211, N 300-90 fits O-ring 2-211, N 674-70). ParCoat® Coating O-rings with ParCoat ® coatings can be assembled with low exertion of force using automatic equipment.
U.S. and Metric O-Ring Sizes, Quad-Ring Seals, Rubber X-Ring Seals, Rubber Square-Ring Seals
The proper o-ring size is a fundamental aspect of proper o-ring performance. Whether your application conforms to U.S., Japanese JIS, British BS, or Common Metric sizing for o-rings, these o-ring size charts will help you locate the right o-ring size. If the o-ring, quad-ring, x-ring or square-ring you need doesn't fit these standards, custom and non-standard products are available for most materials with no tooling or setup fees.
You can contact us or request a quote online to quickly and easily order o-rings, x-rings, square-rings or other non-standard products.

How to Measure O-Rings
O-Rings are one of the most common types of seals in the world. With an unlimited number of possible manufacturing sizes, they are used various applications across industries. These round mechanical seals keep gas or liquid from passing through an opening but over time, they may wear out and require replacement. If you’re planning to replace an O-ring, a good fit is critical for successful sealing.
Below are the steps to take to properly measure for a new or replacement O-Ring.
- Place the O-ring on a clean, flat, level surface.
- Determine the inside diameter by using a ruler to measure from one inner edge to another.
- Use a ruler to measure the diameter, from one outer corner of the O-ring to the other outer corner.
- Finally, measure the cross-section. Place the O-ring into a vernier caliper. Lightly clamp the jaws of the caliper onto the O-ring, but do not compress it. Record the thickness of the ring (the cross-section, see image for reference).
